About

Leith Run Campground provides a beautiful location on the north banks of the Ohio River in Wayne National Forest, just miles from the Ohio-West Virginia border near Newport, Ohio. The campground features grassy campsites set in a scenic hardwood-pine forest, with many waterfront sites offering direct access to the Ohio River and Willow Island Pool. A backwater estuary lies alongside the campground, accessible via a paved trail and boardwalk with gazebo, providing excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and fishing for bass, catfish, and other species. The campground offers both electric ($20/night) and non-electric ($15/night) campsites, with modern conveniences that formerly included a bathhouse with flush toilets. Due to recent flood damage, vault toilets are currently available while the bathhouse undergoes repairs. The RV dump station remains operational. Amenities include group picnic shelters, a playground, and a trailhead for the Scenic River Trail, which climbs to a bluff above the river offering scenic views. The Covered Bridge Scenic Byway passes nearby, featuring forested hills, open pastures, and four 19th century covered bridges. The campground is located approximately 18-21 miles north of Marietta on State Route 7.
