About
Hune Bridge Campground offers a quiet, primitive camping experience in Wayne National Forest's Marietta Unit. The campground features four first-come, first-served campsites located just below the historic Hune Covered Bridge along the Little Muskingum River. This small campground provides an ideal base for paddlers and hikers, serving as a canoe access point on the river and the trailhead for the 5-mile Covered Bridge Trail that connects to Rinard Covered Bridge. The campground is accessed via the National Forest Covered Bridge Scenic Byway (State Route 26) in Washington County. Due to a land slippage affecting the covered bridge itself, visitors must use a detour route: from Route 26 north of Hune Covered Bridge near Wingett Run, take Scottown Road across the Little Muskingum River, then turn right onto Smith Road and follow it south along the river to reach the campground. Hune Bridge Campground is a basic facility without drinking water, so campers must bring their own water supply. Sites include basic amenities and are located in a scenic riverside setting perfect for those seeking a more rustic camping experience.
Directions
From Interstate 77, take Exit 1 (SR 7). Go towards Marietta on SR 7. Turn right at Acme Street (the first light). Acme St. ends at Greene Street. Turn right on Greene St. (SR 26). Due to land slippage affecting the covered bridge, access requires a detour: from Route 26 north of Hune Covered Bridge near Wingett Run, take Scottown Road (Twp. Rd. 35) across the Little Muskingum River. After a short drive, turn right onto Smith Road (Twp. Rd. 408). Follow Smith Rd. south along the river until you reach the campground.
