About

Legion State Park is the fourth of the original Mississippi state parks developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. The park encompasses approximately 400 acres of heavily wooded land surrounding Lake Toppasha (12 acres) and Lake Palila, located just 2 miles north of Louisville in Winston County. The area remains as unspoiled as when the Choctaw Indian Nation first inhabited the region centuries ago. The campground features 15 RV sites equipped with water, sewer, and electrical hookups, along with picnic tables and grills at each site. Some sites include fire rings. A bathhouse with hot showers and modern restrooms serves the RV camping area. Two primitive tent camping sites are also available. Beyond camping, the park offers five air-conditioned vacation cabins in a wooded setting, each with a stone fireplace, basic kitchen equipment, bed and bath linens, outdoor fire ring, and charcoal grill. Recreational opportunities include fishing and boating on Lake Toppasha, hiking the 1.6-mile Blue Bird Nature Trail that encircles the lake, and disc golf on the Big Iron DGC course. The park's historic CCC-era structures add to its charm as a peaceful retreat in east-central Mississippi.
