About

Nestled in the red hill country of Winston County, Legion State Park remains as unspoiled today as when the Choctaw Indian Nation first inhabited the area centuries ago. As the fourth of the original state parks developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the park strikes a perfect balance between natural beauty and modern comfort. All man-made structures complement the pristine surroundings. The campground offers 15 RV sites equipped with water, sewer, and electrical hookups, along with picnic tables and grills. Some sites include fire rings. Two primitive tent camping sites are available in a designated area. All campers have access to a bathhouse with hot showers. The park features two lakes: the 12-acre Lake Toppasha and 4-acre Lake Palila, both stocked with bass and bream. The Blue Bird Nature Trail, a 1.6-mile natural surface trail, encircles Lake Toppasha and provides opportunities to observe native birds, plants, and wildlife. Legion Lodge, an impressive hand-hewn log structure constructed in 1937, remains unaltered since its original construction and has been designated a Mississippi Landmark by the Department of Archives and History. The park also offers five air-conditioned vacation cabins, one handicap-accessible cottage, picnic pavilions, and a playground. A new 18-hole disc golf course is scheduled to open in Fall 2024.

Directions

From Highway 25 North to Highway 14 at the 4-way stop on Louisville bypass, turn right. Travel to the 3rd stop light, turn left onto North Columbus Avenue, and travel 2.5 miles. The park is located on the left.
