About

Lakeside Campground is one of the premier waterfront camping destinations in Virginia's state park system, positioned directly beside Douthat Lake in the Allegheny Highlands. The campground offers 19 sites with gravel pads, each equipped with water and electric hookups (30 and 50 amp available), a picnic table, grill, and lantern post. A centrally located bathhouse provides flush toilets and showers, with a dump station nearby for RV waste. Douthat State Park encompasses over 4,500 acres and features 40 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy lakeside walks to challenging mountain climbs, many open to mountain bikers. The 50-acre lake is a fee-fishing destination stocked with trout twice weekly during season, plus excellent largemouth bass fishing year-round. Swimming is available at the beach during summer months. The campground operates year-round, though water is turned off at individual sites from November through March due to freezing temperatures. Campers during winter months should bring their own water supply. Each site accommodates RVs up to 40 feet, with parking for tow or towed vehicles. Generators are prohibited in all campgrounds. Firewood is available for purchase at the park; do not bring outside firewood to prevent invasive species spread.

Directions

From I-64, take Exit 27 near Clifton Forge. Turn north onto State Route 629 and travel north two miles to the park entrance sign, then another four miles to reach the park office. Lakeside Campground is located near the lake within the park.
