About

Established in 1936 as one of Virginia's original six state parks, Douthat State Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its significant role in park development nationwide. The park features 32 cabins and three lodges built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, offering authentic rustic accommodations amid breathtaking Allegheny Mountain scenery. Cabins range from one-room log efficiencies sleeping four to three-bedroom frame cabins, with most featuring wood-burning fireplaces, full kitchens with modern appliances, bathrooms with hot water, and heat and AC. All cabins include outdoor amenities like porches with rocking chairs, picnic tables, charcoal grills, and fire pits. The three lodges accommodate 15-18 guests and include additional amenities like washers, dryers, and WiFi. Cabins 1-30 have been renovated with updated furniture. The 4,545-acre park surrounds a 50-acre lake stocked twice weekly with rainbow, brown, and brook trout, plus largemouth bass and other species. Over 43 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and bridle trails wind through the mountains, ranging from easy to difficult. A sandy swimming beach operates May through October, and boat rentals are available Memorial Day through Labor Day. The park offers interpretive programs, camp store, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and equestrian facilities. Twenty cabins remain open year-round for winter getaways.
