About

Douthat State Park's Beaver Dam campground is a dedicated equestrian facility in the mountains of Bath County, Virginia. The campground provides 14 mostly shaded sites with water and 30/50-amp electric service, including four pull-through sites that can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. Each site includes a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. A bathhouse with showers and a dump station serve the campground. Thirteen covered stalls measuring 12x12 feet are available for rent separately from campsites. Only one horse is permitted per stall, and guests must provide their own hay, water bucket, and cleanup supplies. The park furnishes a rake, shovel, and wheelbarrow. At least one person must remain in the campground overnight for the duration of any stall reservation. The campground connects to 6 miles of bridle trails within the park, which link to the Alleghany Highlands Multi-use Trail for extended riding opportunities. Douthat State Park, one of Virginia's original six state parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, encompasses over 4,500 acres of forested mountain terrain surrounding a 50-acre lake.
