About

Lake Minatare State Recreation Area is the Panhandle's largest body of water, offering 2,158 acres of lake and 12 miles of shoreline within the North Platte National Wildlife Refuge. The recreation area features historic Civilian Conservation Corps structures from the 1930s, including a stone shelter designed as a lighthouse replica. The campground includes three main camping areas: Lake View Campground with 52 Electric Plus sites, Butte View Campground with 49 Electric Plus sites, and West Wind Campground with 20 Basic sites. Half of the sites in Lake View and Butte View are reservable up to 180 days in advance, while the remaining sites are first-come, first-served. Primitive and beach camping sites are also scattered throughout the park at West Wind, South Gate, Lake View, Scout's Rest, and Butte View areas. Recreational activities include boating with three ramps and courtesy docks, fishing, water skiing, swimming, kayak rentals, hiking, and bird watching. The park also offers Scout's Cabin accommodating up to 50 guests and the Sunrise Beach shelter with a fireplace.
