About
The Red Cloud Campground is uniquely situated in the beautiful Pine Ridge area of Nebraska National Forest, one mile south of Chadron State Park on the west side of Highway 385. This intimate campground offers 13 sites, each equipped with picnic tables, parking pads, pedestal grills, fire rings, and access to a vault toilet. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Pine Ridge Trail system, accessible via nearby Outrider and Strong Canyon trailheads. The Pine Ridge trail passes through diverse landscapes including grassland, ponderosa pine forest, creek bottoms, canyons, and open ridges with views of nearby buttes. Motorized trail access is also available at Strong Canyon, Spotted Tail, and the Cliffs trailheads. Operating year-round on a first-come, first-served basis, Red Cloud Campground charges $10 per night for a single site (one vehicle included) with an additional vehicle fee of $5 per night. No drinking water is available on-site, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground enforces a 14-day stay limit and requires certified noxious weed-free hay or feed for livestock on national forest lands.
