The campground is open and accepting reservations through November 15, 2026. A campfire ban remains in effect due to elevated fire risk; visitors must avoid campfires, charcoal grills, and other open flames. Camp stoves using liquid or gas fuel are permitted. Some sites are reservable up to 180 days in advance via ReserveAmerica; the rest are first-come, first-served.

On Friday, south winds becoming west at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. * HUMIDITY...On Thursday, between 10 and 20 percent. Thursday night, humidity recoveries to between 40 and 65 percent. On Friday, between 6 and 12 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
About
Chadron State Park holds the distinction of being Nebraska's first state park, established in 1921. Located in Dawes County among the distinctive buttes and ponderosa pine-covered canyons of the Pine Ridge, the park provides a scenic escape with rugged terrain that feels worlds apart from the Great Plains. The campground offers 70 modern sites equipped with 30-amp electrical hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings with grills. An additional 18 primitive walk-in tent sites provide a more rustic experience. Approximately 31 sites are reservable through the Nebraska Game & Parks reservation system, while the remainder operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Camper amenities include modern restrooms with flush toilets, showers, laundry facilities, a dump station, and drinking water access. The park excels as a destination for outdoor recreation. Over 100 miles of trails accommodate hikers and mountain bikers of all skill levels. Additional activities include swimming in the park pool, horseback trail rides, paddle boating on the lagoon, fishing, tennis, volleyball, and wildlife watching. A snack bar and souvenir shop serve visitors during the peak season.
