Lake Michigan Campground

Open — Open year-round for camping. Potable water available in the campground late April to mid-October; campers must bring their own water during the off-season. The Lake Michigan Campground sanitation station is currently closed for replacement and scheduled to reopen in late spring/early summer 2026. The Lake Michigan Beach House is closed for renovations with anticipated reopening in late spring/early summer 2026.

Lake Michigan Campground is one of two campgrounds at Muskegon State Park, offering 106 modern campsites across two loops in a wooded setting. The campground sits on the inland side of a large sand dune with stairway access to Lake Michigan's shoreline. Most sites are wooded and equipped with electrical service, including some 50-amp sites and pull-through options. The campground features modern toilet and shower buildings, and vault toilets are also available. Open year-round for camping, the facility includes a sanitation station with potable water from late April to mid-October. The campground provides convenient access to over two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and is located directly across Scenic Drive from the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park, which offers year-round activities including an Olympian-designed luge track, cross-country ski trails, hiking, and a summer luge. The historic CCC-built blockhouse observation platform sits on the highest point in Muskegon County nearby. Two mini cabins are also available within the campground. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for entry.

From US-31, take the Russell Road exit (Exit 121). Head west on Russell Road, then turn right onto Bard Road before the gas station. Continue for 0.5 miles, then turn right onto Strand Road to reach the campground.
