Channel Campground occupies a prime location within Muskegon State Park, positioned along the navigation channel connecting Muskegon Lake to Lake Michigan. The 139-site modern campground is split into two distinct loops offering different camping experiences. Loop 1 (sites 1-92) provides wooded sites immediately adjacent to the channel, where campers can watch freighters and recreational boats navigate the waterway. Loop 2 (sites 101-147) was built more recently with larger, paved sites featuring concrete pads and views across Muskegon Lake toward the dunes. The campground provides full modern amenities including 30-amp and 50-amp electrical hookups at all sites, clean bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, and a dump station with potable water fill-up. Each site comes equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. The park's 3 miles of shoreline (2 on Lake Michigan, 1 on Muskegon Lake) provide swimming beaches, and the park offers hiking trails, fishing access, and winter activities including a luge run. The campground operates seasonally, typically April through October, with reservations available through the Michigan DNR reservation system. A federally funded restoration of the channel walkway is underway through August 2026, closing the walkway and adjacent parking area, though the campground itself remains operational.

From US-31 in North Muskegon, take the Laketon Avenue/Whitehall exit and head west. Turn left onto Memorial Drive and continue approximately 4 miles to the park entrance at 3560 Memorial Drive, North Muskegon, MI 49445.
