About

Lake Carlos State Park preserves a diverse glacial landscape of kettle lakes, maple-basswood forest, tamarack bogs, and restored prairies. The 122-site campground is split between two loops: the Lower Campground offers lakeside access near the interpretive center, boat ramp, and amphitheater with excellent views of Lake Carlos, while the Upper Campground provides a quieter, wooded experience in the park's northeast corner. Campers have access to modern amenities including flush toilets, hot-water showers, potable water, and a dump station during the main season. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The park also offers four year-round camper cabins with electricity and heat, an equestrian campground with 7 sites and access to 9 miles of horse trails, and group camping facilities. Beyond camping, the park features a sandy swimming beach with volleyball, a boat ramp suitable for large watercraft, and trails for hiking and wildlife viewing. The Long Prairie River originates at the lake's outlet, and visitors commonly spot beaver, deer, loons, and great blue herons.
