About
Doris Campground is a modern camping facility located on Quanah Parker Lake within Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in southwest Oklahoma. The refuge preserves approximately 60,000 acres of mixed grass prairie and ancient granite mountains worn by time and nature. The campground provides convenient access to quality fishing, canoeing, and kayaking on Quanah Parker Lake, with the Little Baldy trailhead located nearby for scenic hikes.
The refuge is best known for its free-roaming herds of American bison, Texas longhorn cattle, and Rocky Mountain elk. Wildlife-dependent recreation opportunities abound, including bird watching, wildlife photography, and exploration of the diverse landscape featuring cedar forests, open prairies, and fresh water lakes. The campground's central location makes it an ideal base for exploring all areas of the refuge, from Mount Scott to Prairie Dog Town.
All camping at the refuge is available by reservation only through Recreation.gov. The campground includes both individual and group campsites. Additional hiking trails, the Visitor Center, and other notable features are just a few miles from the campground, providing endless possibilities for outdoor adventure in this lasting refuge for wildlife.
Directions
From I-44 take Highway 49 (exit 45). Go west 7 miles to the Refuge gate or 14 miles to the Visitor Center. If coming from Highway 62, take Highway 115 (Cache exit) north to the Refuge Gate.
