About
Kyles Landing Campground offers a secluded camping experience within Buffalo National River, located approximately 12 miles east of Ponca and 8 miles west of Jasper off Highway 74. This primitive tent-only facility features 33 first-come, first-served campsites nestled along the Buffalo River, making it a popular destination for paddlers and hikers. The campground serves as both a starting and ending point for numerous river floats, including routes from Steel Creek (8 miles) and to Erbie (5.7 miles). The campground operates seasonally with varying amenities. From March 15 through November 14, sites are $20 per night and include access to flush restrooms and potable water. During the winter season (November 15 through March 14), camping is free with vault toilets available and water systems shut down. The 3-mile access road to the campground is rough and only recommended for high-clearance, 4-wheel drive vehicles, which also prohibits RVs and trailers from accessing the area. Each campsite accommodates up to 6 people and includes a fire ring and picnic table. The campground provides a trailhead connecting to the Buffalo River Trail and Old River Horse Trail. While the campsites themselves are not ADA accessible, the restroom facilities meet ADA compliance standards. The non-motorized boat launch at Kyles Landing provides access to the Buffalo River for canoes, kayaks, and rafts, with the campground situated within close proximity to notable features including Big Bluff, Hemmed-in Hollow, and other scenic river bluffs.
