About
Kook Lake Cabin sits in a beautiful stand of spruce and hemlock on the west end of Kook Lake, approximately 45 miles northeast of Sitka on Chichagof Island. The remote location between Tenakee Inlet and Peril Strait offers true wilderness solitude. Access is by floatplane (30 minutes from Sitka or Juneau) or by boating to Corner Bay and hiking 7 miles on logging roads plus 0.7 miles on the Kook Lake Trail. The wood A-frame cabin measures 16x16 feet and features one double plywood bunk on the main level and an upstairs sleeping loft reached by vertical ladder. A wood stove provides heat, and the cabin includes a table with benches, cooking counter, axe, and outdoor screened cooler box. A small rowboat with oars is provided. Visitors must bring sleeping bags, cooking stove, food, water, toilet paper, garbage bags, and personal flotation devices. Cutthroat and Dolly Varden fishing is available year-round in the lake. Sockeye salmon runs occur July through August, and coho salmon from late August through early September. Brown bears frequent the area. Seasonal deer and bear hunting is available with proper permits from Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
