About
Lake Eva Cabin sits in a spruce and hemlock forest overlooking Lake Eva at 194 feet elevation on the northeast coast of Baranof Island. This 12' x 14' Pan Abode style cabin accommodates up to 6 people and features wooden bunks, a table with benches, cooking counter, cupboard, and an oil stove for heat. The cabin has barrier-free access features including an accessible dock, boardwalk, and ADA-accessible outhouse. Access is exclusively by floatplane with a 25-minute flight from Sitka. The lake typically freezes from December through early May, making floatplane landings impossible during winter months. A skiff with oars is provided at the cabin for exploring the lake and accessing the Lake Eva-Hanus Bay Trail, which stretches about a mile to saltwater. Fishing is the primary draw, with cutthroat and Dolly Varden available year-round and best from April to late June. The outlet stream sees steelhead runs April through June, sockeye mid-July through August, and coho salmon September through October. Guests must bring all supplies including sleeping bags, cook stove, lantern, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, and 10 gallons of #1 diesel fuel for a 3-day stay. Brown bear and deer inhabit the area.
