About
Knightville Dam is a 2,430-acre US Army Corps of Engineers flood control project in the Berkshire foothills of western Massachusetts. The Knightville Picnic Area features a reservable group shelter with picnic tables, grilling sites, and flush toilets. The shelter sits along the East Branch of the Westfield River, which is stocked with brown, brook, and rainbow trout in spring and fall.
This facility is a day-use picnic shelter, not an overnight campground. Groups looking for overnight camping at Knightville Dam should reserve Indian Hollow Group Campground instead, which offers flush toilets, showers, and drinking water for community organizations like scouts and schools.
The surrounding area offers excellent recreation including the 6-mile East Branch Trail for hiking and the 2-mile Claude M. Hill Horse Trail. Hunting is permitted in accordance with Massachusetts regulations, and the open fields attract diverse wildlife including deer, coyotes, and numerous bird species.
