Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) State Forest, established in 1929, encompasses over 1,700 acres of northern hardwood-conifer forest in western Massachusetts. The 51-site campground is uniquely situated on a ridge between Upper Highland Lake and a scenic wetland, providing campers with diverse landscapes and excellent opportunities to observe wildlife including moose, bear, and beaver. The campground offers direct access to Upper Highland Lake for swimming and fishing, with a dedicated camper's beach. More than 15 miles of mixed-use trails wind through the forest, accommodating hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. The historic Goshen fire tower provides panoramic views of the Connecticut River Valley. Additional amenities include a nature center, accessible nature trail, picnic areas, and the Long House pavilion donated by the Massachusetts DAR in 1976. DAR State Forest serves as an ideal base camp for exploring the Berkshire region while providing a peaceful retreat with spacious, wooded campsites. The forest's interpretive programs and self-guided adventures make it suitable for families seeking both recreation and education in a natural setting.
