About

Rocky Point Campground sits within Keyhole State Park in northeastern Wyoming, about 6 miles north of Interstate 90 near Moorcroft. The campground occupies a scenic stretch along Keyhole Reservoir, a 14,720-acre impoundment created by Keyhole Dam on the Belle Fourche River. The reservoir is known for excellent fishing, including walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, and channel catfish, with some of Wyoming's largest catches on record. The 22 primitive sites at Rocky Point are classified as undeveloped, offering a more rustic experience compared to the park's developed campgrounds like Tatanka or Coulter Bay. Sites lack hookups but include picnic tables and fire rings. Vault toilets serve the area, and water hydrants provide potable water. Most sites have limited shade but offer excellent reservoir access for water-based recreation. Keyhole State Park as a whole spans over 15,000 acres and provides opportunities for boating, water skiing, swimming, hiking, and wildlife viewing. The park is on the western fringe of the Black Hills, creating a unique landscape where pine-covered ridges meet high plains grassland. A dump station is available seasonally near the park entrance for those needing to service RVs.
