Keyhole State Park Beach Area

Open

Open for camping. Reservation season runs May 15 through September 15; sites are first-come, first-served outside these dates. Water systems operate May 15 through October 15. The beach access road closes during winter months.

About

Beach Area Campground sits on the western edge of the Black Hills at Keyhole State Park, positioned between the park marina and Pat's Point Campground. The small campground offers 6-7 undeveloped sites scattered among pine trees, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. While the sites lack level pads and hookups, a restroom and water hydrant are located nearby. The campground provides direct access to Keyhole Reservoir, a 14,720-acre impoundment popular for fishing (walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, channel catfish) and boating. The park's dump station operates seasonally, and a shower house is available during peak season. Tatanka Campground elsewhere in the park offers electric and water hookups for those needing them. Keyhole State Park is easily accessed from I-90 at exit 165, traveling 6 miles north to park headquarters. The park operates year-round, though the beach area access road closes during winter months.

Directions

From I-90, take exit 165 (Pine Haven/Keyhole). Travel north 6 miles. Park headquarters entrance will be on the left. Beach Area Campground is located south of the marina, between the marina and Pat's Point Campground.
