About

Kennaday Peak Lookout was the last fully functional fire lookout on the Brush Creek Ranger District, originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The current structure dates to 1964 and is listed on the National Historic Register. Perched high above the Snowy Range, it offers spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. The compact 15x15-foot living space is equipped with two bunk beds (sleeps 4), a propane heater for cool mountain nights, a propane cookstove, cookware and utensils, and solar-powered lights. There is no indoor plumbing; an outdoor vault toilet is provided. Visitors must bring all their own drinking water. Access requires a high-clearance vehicle, and 4WD may be necessary depending on conditions. The surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, OHV riding, wildlife viewing, and hunting. Kennaday Peak itself is a popular OHV destination with rewarding views.
