The Brush Creek Work Center Barrack provides an ideal winter getaway in the heart of the Snowy Range. This historic bi-level cabin, originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1937-1941, is available for rental from mid-December through March. The facility comfortably accommodates up to eight people in four bedrooms, each equipped with twin beds. Inside, guests will find a full kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave, and basic cooking supplies, as well as a dining area and small living room with TV. Two bathrooms feature flush toilets and showers, and the house is heated with electricity throughout.
Situated at 8,100 feet elevation, the barracks receives early autumn snow that typically begins accumulating by Halloween. Eight miles up from the facility, the Highway 130 winter closure gate marks the beginning of a popular snowmobile trail. Wyoming State Trails maps show over 300 miles of groomed and ungroomed snowmobile trails in the area. The Brush Creek Cross-Country Ski Trails wind through aspen groves, lodgepole pine stands, and reclaimed clear-cuts, with grooming frequency dependent on weather and equipment availability. The old Ryan Park Ski Area offers sledding opportunities nearby. The driveway to the cabin is plowed for access, though walkways and doors are not cleared of snow.
Directions
From Saratoga, Wyoming, travel south on Highway 130 for 8 miles to the junction of Highway 130 and Highway 230. Turn east on Highway 130 and travel for 12 miles to the Brush Creek Work Center. Turn into the work center and park at the bi-level house. The driveway is plowed to the Brush Creek Barracks.
