Seasonal operation typically runs June 1 through November 15, depending on winter conditions. No reservations accepted; all sites are first-come, first-served. The hand pump water well is currently inoperable, so campers must bring their own water.

About

Bennett Peak Campground is a primitive Bureau of Land Management fee site nestled along the banks of the North Platte River at 7,200 feet elevation. The campground offers 11 individual campsites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring with grill, sandy tent pad, and parking space. A vault toilet and boat ramp are available, though the hand pump water well is currently inoperable. The riparian setting features cottonwoods, ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, willows, juniper, and mountain mahogany. Wildlife is abundant, including bald eagles, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, wild turkeys, mule deer, mountain lions, grouse, and rattlesnakes. The North Platte River provides excellent fishing for rainbow and brown trout, while the nearby Snowy Range offers big game hunting opportunities. Access requires traveling approximately 38 miles south from I-80 on Wyoming highways, then navigating 19 miles of gravel and BLM roads to reach the campground. The remote location and lack of amenities make this site best suited for self-sufficient campers seeking solitude and outdoor recreation.

Directions

From I-80, take WY 130 and WY 230 south approximately 38 miles to Riverside. Take WY 230 east for 4 miles. Turn left onto County Road 660 and travel 12 miles on graveled road to Bennett Peak Road (BLM Road 3404). Follow it 7 miles to the campground.
