About
Bow River Campground sits along the upper Medicine Bow River in Wyoming's Snowy Range, offering 13 well-separated campsites in a heavily wooded forest of lodgepole pine, spruce, and young aspen. The dense understory provides excellent privacy between sites, and the setting is quiet and tranquil. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, and the campground has two vault toilets and potable water.
This is a pack-in pack-out campground with no trash service, so campers must haul out all garbage. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov. Sites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs, with a maximum of 8 people and 2 vehicles per site. Dogs are welcome but must remain on leash.
Recreation opportunities abound in the Snowy Range. Nearby hiking trails include Rock Creek, Sheep Lake, and Crater Lake. OHV riders can explore the Campbell Lake Loop approximately 9 miles south of the campground after July 1. The area also offers excellent fishing in streams and over 100 alpine lakes, with popular attractions including Silver Lake, Lake Marie Falls, Mirror Lake, and Medicine Bow Peak Trail.
Directions
From Saratoga, WY take the Snowy Range Highway (WY-130) east 20 miles to Forest Road 100. Turn onto Forest Road 100 and drive approximately 20 miles to the campground. This is a slow drive on gravel roads. Alternatively, from Elk Mountain, WY take Carbon County Road 101 south to the National Forest boundary, continue to Forest Road 100 (approximately 2 miles), then watch for the campground in less than 0.5 mile.
