About

Kathryn Lake Recreation Area sits on a scenic 62-acre glacial lake in the Medford-Park Falls Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The lake offers quality fishing for walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, yellow perch, and panfish, along with opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The developed 8-site campground was permanently closed in 2019 due to significant cuts in National Forest Recreation, Heritage, and Wilderness funding. Infrastructure has been removed and the area is reverting to general forest use. The accessible boat landing and picnic area remain open for day use, though no restrooms or potable water are provided. For overnight camping in the area, the nearby Chippewa Recreation Area offers developed camping facilities. Dispersed camping is generally permitted on Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest lands unless specifically prohibited.
