About

Brunet Island State Park Campground occupies a scenic 169-acre island where the Fisher River meets the Chippewa River in Chippewa County. The park offers two distinct camping experiences across 69 campsites. The South Campground provides 24 sites with electric hookups, modern shower facilities with flush toilets, and an ADA-accessible campsite. The North Campground features 45 non-electric sites, many positioned directly on the shoreline of the Chippewa River or its bays, offering paddlers the ability to camp within steps of the water. The park's 1,300 acres of rolling glacial landscape feature quiet lagoons and channels perfect for canoeing and kayaking. Wildlife watching opportunities abound, with numerous white-tailed deer and large eastern hemlock trees throughout the property. Anglers can fish for northern pike, walleye, and smallmouth bass from fishing piers near both campgrounds. A roped-off swimming beach is available in the southern end of the island. The park links to the Old Abe State Trail, providing additional recreational opportunities. Camping operates seasonally from May through October, with advance reservations available through Wisconsin State Parks. The park itself remains open year-round for day use and offers over 4 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails during winter months. Firewood is available for purchase from the campground host during summer, and vendors in nearby Cornell provide groceries and camping supplies.
