About

Junebug Campground is a recently refurbished roadside campground located along the Red River in Carson National Forest, just 2 miles west of the historic mining town of Red River via NM 38. The campground features 23 campsites in a convenient roadside setting, making it easily accessible for various camping setups. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire pit, and the facility provides vault toilets and potable water during the operating season. The Red River runs along the backside of the campground, offering excellent river fishing opportunities right from camp. The campground's location near the Red River Ski Resort and the historic mining area makes it a popular base camp for both summer and winter recreation. During summer weekends, the campground experiences heavy use and often fills by late afternoon. Junebug operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. The campground is open seasonally, typically from late May through late September, closing for winter due to snow and cold temperatures. Sites are $22 per night with an additional $11 fee for extra vehicles. For those seeking alternatives during busy periods, the BLM's Wild Rivers Recreation Area north of Questa offers additional camping options.
