About
Elephant Rock Campground is a single-loop campground that meanders up a hillside in the Carson National Forest, featuring several sites with distinctive stone terracing. The 20 campsites are tucked among a diverse mix of ponderosa pine, aspen, fir, and spruce trees at 8,400 feet elevation. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and tent pad. The campground offers potable water and four vault toilets. The campground provides excellent fishing access to the well-stocked Red River, which flows near the campground, as well as nearby Eagle Rock Lake. The Fawn Lakes Trail, an accessible hiking trail, begins just 0.3 miles east near Fawn Lakes Campground. The location is well-suited for day trips along the scenic Enchanted Circle and to the historic town of Red River. Bears frequent the area, so campers must obey all food storage rules. Off-road vehicles are prohibited. The campground can be very crowded during summer weekends due to its convenient roadside location and proximity to recreational amenities.
