Air Quality Alert issued July 17 at 12:08PM PDT by NWS Medford OR

July 17th, 12:08 PM — 12:30 PM

Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Pollution Advisory...in effect until noon PDT Monday. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather. People at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: * Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. * Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality. * People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. * Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems. * Avoid using wood-burning stoves and other sources of indoor smoke if possible. About

Jim Creek Group Campground is a secluded tent-only group site set within an old-growth Douglas-fir forest adjacent to Abbott Creek in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The campground accommodates up to 40 people and features picnic tables and fire pits. A vault toilet is located a short hike from the camp area. There is no potable water or garbage service, so campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The site is accessed via a locked gate behind Forest Road 6470, with a combination provided in your reservation confirmation. Parking is limited, with space for approximately 5 vehicles at the lower lot and additional overflow parking about 1/8 mile away. This is strictly a tent-only site; RVs, trailers, and pop-ups are not permitted. Nearby attractions include the Woodruff Bridge picnic area, which provides access to the 47-mile Upper Rogue River Trail connecting Crater Lake National Park to Prospect. A managed OHV trail system with play areas is just minutes away. Crater Lake National Park and the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway offer additional day-trip opportunities.

Directions

From Prospect, travel north on Highway 62 for approximately 6 miles. Turn left on Forest Road 68 for approximately 2 miles. Immediately after crossing the Rogue River, turn left on Forest Road 64 for approximately 0.5 mile. Turn right on Forest Road 6470 for approximately 0.1 mile. Turn right into Jim Creek Group Campsite (Forest Road 6470.100, behind locked gate). The site is approximately 8.5 miles from the Prospect Ranger Station.
