The campground typically opens in June when snow clears from access roads, operating through October. Road conditions in May are variable; access may still be restricted by snow. First-come, first-served with no reservations.

About

Jarbidge Campground sits in one of Nevada's most isolated mountain ranges, approximately 1 mile south of the historic gold mining town of Jarbidge. The campground is part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and provides a gateway to the Jarbidge Wilderness, Nevada's first designated wilderness area. The rugged landscape features rocky peaks, cirque basins, and narrow canyons carved into the surrounding mountains. This free, primitive campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Facilities are minimal: vault toilets are available but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The remote setting attracts hikers, anglers targeting trout in the Jarbidge Wild and Scenic River, hunters, and those seeking solitude far from developed areas. Access to Jarbidge requires navigating remote gravel roads from Elko via State Route 225 north, then County Roads 746 and 748. The road is typically impassable due to snow from late October through June, making this a summer and early fall destination only.

Directions

From Elko, take Nevada State Route 225 north for approximately 65 miles. Turn east onto Elko County Road 746, then north onto Elko County Road 748. Follow signs to Jarbidge. The campground is approximately 1 mile south of town. Roads are unpaved and may be impassable during winter and early spring due to snow.
