About
Isabella Landing Camp is a no-fee primitive camping area situated at the Isabella Landing Trailhead in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. Located along the North Fork of the Clearwater River near the junction of Isabella Landing and Forest Road 700, this campground serves as a gateway to the North Fork Downriver Trail (Trail 297). The 7-mile trail takes visitors through a Research Natural Area home to rare plant species, abundant fern populations, and majestic old growth cedar trees before ending at Salmon Creek. The camping area is maintained by the U.S. Forest Service and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. This primitive facility does not provide potable water, and restroom facilities are limited. Campers should come prepared with all necessary supplies and practice Leave No Trace principles. The location offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, and nature observation. Motorcycles are permitted on the trail, but ATVs are not allowed. The campground provides a rustic backcountry experience in a stunning forested corridor. Visitors should be prepared for wildlife encounters and follow proper food storage protocols. The area is best accessed during summer and fall when forest roads are typically passable, though seasonal closures may occur due to winter snow and road conditions.
Directions
