About

Iron Creek Campground sits at the end of Forest Road 619 in the heart of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, approximately 7 miles from Stanley. The 9 campsites are arranged alongside Iron Creek beneath a lodgepole pine canopy, offering a peaceful basecamp for exploring the Sawtooth Wilderness. The campground is a prime launching point for some of the most scenic trails in the Sawtooths. The Iron Creek Trail leads to Sawtooth Lake, one of the most photographed alpine lakes in Idaho. Other accessible destinations include Alpine Lake, Goat Lake, Trail Creek Lakes, and the McGown Lakes basin. Horses and pack animals are permitted, making this a good staging area for backcountry trips. All sites operate first-come, first-served with payment via the Recreation.gov Scan and Pay app or on-site fee envelope. The campground enforces a 10-day occupancy limit within any 30-day period across the entire SNRA within a 30-mile radius. Campers must occupy their site the first night and cannot leave it unoccupied for more than 24 hours.
