About

Situated between Grand Rapids and Lansing, Ionia State Recreation Area encompasses 4,500 acres of diverse Michigan landscape featuring rolling hills, mature forests, open meadows, and wetlands. The modern campground occupies a hilltop position with approximately 100 semi-secluded sites, each equipped with 20/30-amp electrical service, a fire pit, and picnic table. Modern restroom facilities with flush toilets and showers serve campers, and dump stations are located at the campground entrance. The park centers around Sessions Lake, offering fishing opportunities with an accessible fishing pier. Birders have documented over 199 species in the area. A network of hiking trails winds through varied terrain, and disc golf provides another recreational option. The beach house offers restrooms, food concessions, and kayak/canoe rentals. Equestrian enthusiasts will find one of Michigan's best-equipped state recreation area facilities here, with a separate 49-site rustic campground and 15 miles of dedicated horse trails.
