About

Independence Creek Campground sits along its namesake creek about a mile west of Independence, the Inyo County seat, at the base of Onion Valley Road in the Eastern Sierra. The campground provides a convenient base for exploring the region, with easy access to Highway 395 and proximity to both the John Muir Wilderness and Manzanar National Historic Site. The 29 single-family sites are spread along the creek banks, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring/grill. Vault toilets are provided, and potable water is available seasonally (shut off during winter months). The gentle stream is regularly stocked with trout, making it popular with anglers; fishing season runs from the last Saturday in April through November 15, with a license required for ages 16 and up. Reservations can be made through ReserveAmerica, though first-come, first-served sites are also available. The campground is open year-round, though water service is limited to warmer months. Maximum group size is six people per site.
