About
Portuguese Joe Campground sits along Tuttle Creek west of Lone Pine, providing easy access to the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area and Mt. Whitney Portal. The campground is operated by Inyo County Parks and Recreation on land owned by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. All 20 sites front the creek, offering shade and a pleasant setting beneath the dramatic eastern Sierra escarpment. The campground provides vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, grills, and fire rings at each site. Campfires are permitted in the fire rings. There are no hookups, dump station, or shower facilities. Maximum RV length is 30 feet. Sites accommodate up to six people per site at $14 per night, with additional vehicles at $5 per night. Automated pay stations accept credit cards and cash. Fishing is available in Tuttle Creek with a valid California fishing license for ages 16 and older. The fishing season runs from the last Saturday in April through November 15. The campground is dog-friendly.
