About

Horsfall Sand Camping is a dispersed camping area located directly on the sand at the southern end of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area in Siuslaw National Forest. This unique destination caters specifically to off-road vehicle enthusiasts, offering direct access to vast open dunes and designated sand routes including the Bark Sand Route and Bull Run Sand Route. Individual campsites are marked by numbered posts (sites 98-138) and accommodate up to 5 vehicles and 20 campers, with three group sites available for up to 40 people and 10 vehicles. Access to all campsites requires a 4x4 vehicle capable of traveling through soft sand. Sites are rustic with no amenities provided on-site; campers must bring all necessary equipment including water, portable toilets, fire pans, and garbage bags, as this is a pack-in, pack-out facility. Access points include Horsfall Beach Road, Bull Run Staging Area, Old Bark Staging Area, and Horsfall Day Use Area, depending on which site is reserved. Beyond OHV riding, the area offers fishing opportunities in nearby Jordan Cove (part of Coos Bay), hiking on the Bluebill Trail around Bluebill Lake, and beach access approximately 2 miles from the staging area. The tops of the dunes provide exceptional views of the Pacific Coast to the west and the Oregon Coast Range foothills to the east. Wildlife in the area includes coyote, black bear, elk, mink, porcupine, and otter.
