Bald Eagle Temporary Closure - Bear Canyon Lake - Black Mesa RD
The purpose of this Order is to reduce disturbance to bald eagles during nesting and fledgling seasons in the described area of Bear Canyon Lake on the Black Mesa Ranger District.
About
Honeymoon Campground sits at 5,440 feet elevation along Eagle Creek in a secluded corner of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, about 50 miles northwest of Clifton. The campground is free and operates year-round on a first-come-first-served basis with no reservations available. Facilities are basic: vault toilets, four picnic tables, and two grills. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The setting is peaceful and heavily shaded, with a mix of sycamore and cottonwood trees along the creek and pinyon-juniper woodland surrounding the area. Eagle Creek provides opportunities for stream fishing and the remote location makes this a good spot for wildlife viewing. Usage is typically light. This is a pack-in/pack-out campground with no trash service. The access via Forest Road 217 is unpaved and may be rough; confirm road conditions before traveling, especially during or after wet weather.
