About
At 9,120 feet elevation, Hannagan Campground is one of the highest campgrounds in Arizona, offering deliciously cool temperatures while lower elevations swelter. The small 8-site campground sits in a high-country forest of Colorado Blue spruce, Engelmann spruce, subalpine fir, corkbark fir, and quaking aspen.
The area is rich with wildlife including elk, mule deer, wild turkey, black bear, Abert squirrels, and Steller jays. Lucky visitors may spot the rare northern goshawk or hear hermit thrushes singing in early summer. The meadows host columbine and orchids, and the region is known for excellent mushrooming.
Hannagan Campground provides access to the Blue Range Primitive Area and nearby hiking trails. The historic Hannagan Meadow Lodge is located nearby. In winter, the area offers 14 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees, though donations are accepted.
