About
At the southern end of the East Fork canyon, Buffalo Crossing Campground is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps era site that offers some of the most spacious campsites along the Black River. The East Fork meanders through a forested valley shaded by tall ponderosa pines and bordered by grasses, alders, and cottonwoods, creating a picturesque riparian environment.
Campsites are strategically located a few steps from the stream to protect the Black River's unique riparian zone while still providing easy access to the water. The undergrowth enhances the river's scenic beauty without obstructing passage, making it convenient for anglers and those seeking riverside relaxation.
The campground features 16 single-unit sites, each with a rock fire ring and picnic table. Restrooms are available on-site, though potable water is not. Campers can access drinking water at nearby Diamond Rock area and Horse Springs Campground. The remote location at 7,540 feet elevation provides a peaceful camping experience surrounded by national forest wilderness.
