About

Buffalo Crossing Campground is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps-era site nestled in the East Fork canyon of the Black River at 7,540 feet elevation. The campground boasts the largest campsites along the river, making it a popular destination for those seeking more spacious accommodations in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The East Fork meanders through a forested valley shaded by tall ponderosa pines and bordered by grasses, alders, and cottonwoods. Campsites are positioned a few steps from the stream to protect the Black River's unique riparian zone, though river access remains easy as the undergrowth enhances the scenic character rather than obstructing passage. Trout fishing is the primary draw for many visitors. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Facilities include vault toilets, picnic tables, and rock fire rings. No potable water is available on-site; the nearest water sources are at Diamond Rock area and Horse Springs Campground. No utility hookups are provided.
