About

Holden Ballpark Campground is a remote wilderness campground nestled in the Railroad Creek drainage, one mile west of Holden Village in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. This simple open field campground with 12 sites operates on a first-come, first-served basis and provides a gateway for hikers exploring the Glacier Peak Wilderness. Access to the campground is an adventure in itself, requiring multi-modal transportation. From Chelan, visitors take the Lady of the Lake ferry approximately 40 miles up Lake Chelan to Lucerne Landing. From Lucerne, Holden Village operates a shuttle bus covering the final 11 miles on Forest Service Road 8301. The bus service requires advance reservations and costs $15 round trip or $10 one way. There are no road connections from Chelan to this area, making boat access the only option. The campground sits near the Glacier Peak Wilderness boundary, making it ideal for backpackers and hikers. Facilities are minimal, with flush toilets available but no potable water on-site; campers must treat or filter water from nearby sources. No camping fees are charged, though ferry and bus transportation costs apply. Wilderness regulations are in effect, and the remote location sees light usage, offering solitude for those seeking a true backcountry experience.
