About

Alpine Meadows Campground is a secluded primitive campground nestled along the Chiwawa River in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Located 21 miles from Fish Lake at an elevation of 2,600 feet, the campground offers 8 campsites situated on the valley floor, providing access to the river and surrounding wilderness. This is a first-come, first-served campground with no advance reservations available. Campers must physically arrive to claim a site, with payment available via the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own water supply. Access requires navigating the Chiwawa River Road (Forest Road 6200), where the final 11-mile section is very rough gravel and dirt. This road is not suitable for low clearance vehicles, and winter conditions may further restrict access during the shoulder seasons.

Directions

From Leavenworth, take US-2 West for about 15 miles. Turn right onto WA-207 North and travel 4.4 miles. Turn right onto Chiwawa Loop Road and go about 0.5 mile. Stay right onto County Highway 22 and travel 0.8 mile. Take the second left onto Chiwawa River Road/Forest Road 6200 and follow it for about 21 miles. The campground will be on your left. Note: The final 11 miles are rough gravel and dirt, not suitable for low clearance vehicles.
