About
Highland Ridge Campground sits on the north side of Eau Galle Lake, a 150-acre reservoir created by the Eau Galle Dam on the 35-mile Eau Galle River. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this facility overlooks the sparkling reservoir from heavily wooded terrain characterized by steep hills and bluffs typical of western Wisconsin's landscape. The campground serves as a base for exploring 648 acres of recreation area surrounding the lake. The campground contains 46 total sites spread across multiple loops. The main Highland Ridge loop features 35 electric sites accommodating RVs and trailers, plus 8 walk-in tent sites for a more primitive experience. A dedicated Prairie Loop equestrian area provides 10 electric sites specifically designed for horse camping, complete with manure pits, hitching posts, and vault toilets. Two group sites are also available. Modern amenities include centrally located restroom facilities with flush toilets and hot showers, water fill stations throughout the campground, a dump station, trash and recycling collection, and a playground for families. An interpretive building hosts ranger-led programs on Saturday evenings during summer months. Recreation opportunities abound both on the water and on land. Seven miles of trails wind through the forested terrain, offering hiking and designated equestrian routes with scenic overlook seating areas. The reservoir supports year-round fishing and is open to kayaking, canoeing, and electric-motor boating. A swimming beach provides a spot to cool off in summer. Electric motors only are permitted on the lake, maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. The area's steep topography and dense forest provide excellent habitat for native Wisconsin wildlife and plants.
