About

Frontenac State Park occupies a dramatic blufftop setting along the Mississippi River in Goodhue County, Minnesota. The park has earned a reputation as one of the premier birding destinations in the Upper Midwest, attracting serious birders during spring and fall migrations when raptors, warblers, and waterfowl pass through in large numbers. Over 260 bird species have been documented within the park boundaries. The campground consists of 58 sites distributed across four loops. Loops 1 and 2 offer 19 electric sites total, while Loops 3 and 4 provide rustic camping only. Additional cart-in and backpack sites are located less than half a mile from the parking area for those seeking a more primitive experience. All drive-in sites include a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and access to water and toilet facilities. From May through October, the campground operates flush toilets and hot showers. During the off-season, vault toilets remain available along with a restroom in the ranger station. Hikers and cross-country skiers can explore trails with spectacular views of the wooded river valley, and nearby Lake Pepin offers fishing and boat access.
