About

Frontenac State Park Group Campground provides a primitive camping experience for Scout troops, family reunions, and other organizations in southeastern Minnesota. Situated on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River and Lake Pepin, the group site sits in the back of the main campground area, offering privacy for larger gatherings. The facility includes two pavilions for shelter, multiple fire pits with grills, picnic tables, water access, and pit toilets. As a primitive group camp, modern amenities like showers and flush toilets are not available at the site itself, though the main campground's facilities are a short walk or drive away. The park is renowned as one of the best birding locations in the Midwest, with over 260 species recorded. Spring and fall migrations bring exceptional viewing opportunities along the Mississippi Flyway. The surrounding park offers 13 miles of hiking trails through hardwood forests and along bluff prairies, with stunning views of Lake Pepin. Winter camping is available, though water systems are shut down during cold months. The group campground is well-suited for organizations wanting an outdoor experience without the full backcountry commitment.
