Riverway Campground

Open — Closed for the winter season. Typically operates from mid-April through mid-October. The campground reopened May 2, 2025 following major accessibility renovations.

About

Riverway Campground sits along the banks of the St. Croix River within William O'Brien State Park in Washington County. The 60-site campground offers a wooded setting with 43 sites featuring 30-amp electric hookups and 17 non-electric sites. Recently renovated in 2024-2025, the campground now includes six ADA-compliant campsites, updated shower buildings, and improved accessibility throughout. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The campground provides seasonal amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station, all available from spring through fall. Campers have direct access to the Riverside Trail and can explore diverse landscapes including woodlands, grasslands, wetlands, oak savanna, glacial moraine, and river floodplain. The St. Croix River offers opportunities for paddling, fishing, and scenic river views from campsites near the water. As one of two campgrounds at William O'Brien State Park, Riverway is particularly popular for its riverside location and proximity to Lake Alice. The park offers canoe and kayak rentals, hiking trails, and a swimming beach, making it an ideal base camp for exploring the St. Croix Valley.
