About

Riverway Campground is located at William O'Brien State Park, situated along the St. Croix River about an hour from the Twin Cities. The campground hugs the riverbank below wooded bluffs, offering views of the federally designated National Scenic Riverway known for its sandbars and broad river vistas. The park provides quality recreation opportunities including swimming at Lake Alice, hiking, canoeing, and naturalist-led programs. The campground reopened in May 2025 after extensive renovations funded through state bonding and the Get Out MORE initiative. These improvements made William O'Brien the first Minnesota state park to receive whole-park accessibility upgrades, serving as a model for future modernization efforts. The renovations included reconfigured camping spurs designed to accommodate RVs while meeting modern accessibility standards, new restroom and shower facilities, and multiple ADA-accessible campsites positioned close to amenities. Sites include 30-amp electric hookups, and each standard drive-in site comes with a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The campground offers flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. Directions

From the Twin Cities, head north on I-35E to Highway 97, then east to Highway 95. Turn north on Highway 95 and follow it to the park entrance near Marine on St. Croix.
