About

Hemlock Butte Ski Cabin is a rustic three-room A-frame structure built by the Edelweiss Ski Club in 1990, situated at the base of Mount Bailey in Oregon's Umpqua National Forest. This backcountry cabin offers access to some of the Pacific Northwest's best skiing terrain, with Mount Bailey averaging 600 inches of snow annually and featuring 6,000 acres of skiable terrain. The cabin accommodates up to 8 people and may be shared between multiple reservation groups. Access requires a 4-mile ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile trip from Three Lakes Sno-Park via the Hemlock Butte Trail. The trail offers views of Mount Thielsen, Mount Bailey, and Crater Lake on clear days. An Oregon State Sno-Park permit is required for parking at the trailhead from November through April. The cabin provides only basic amenities: a wood stove for heating and melting snow, a single cooking pot, and an indoor vault toilet. Firewood may be available but is not guaranteed mid-season. Guests must pack in all supplies including sleeping bags and pads, cookware, lanterns, food, and garbage bags. All trash must be packed out. Pets are prohibited.
