Head of the Rapids Group Center is the most remote group camping facility in Saint Croix State Park, Minnesota's largest state park at over 34,000 acres. Built by the WPA and CCC between 1938-1939, this historic group center was originally designed to accommodate handicapped children and can host up to 125 people today. The facility features a dining hall with a maximum capacity of 100 people, complete with a commercial kitchen stocked with plates, cups, and eating utensils for 125 people. Multiple lodging cabins provide overnight accommodations with shower facilities. Additional amenities include a private ball field, craft shop, and council ring for group activities. The center operates seasonally from mid-May through the end of September on a first-come, first-served basis. Located along the Kettle River, Minnesota's first Wild and Scenic River, the group center provides access to exceptional outdoor recreation. The nearby Two Rivers hiking trail offers a scenic five-mile loop, while Head of the Rapids Landing provides direct river access to the St. Croix River, a National Scenic Riverway. The park features over 200 miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails, making it ideal for large group outings seeking a remote wilderness experience.

From Hinckley, Minnesota, take State Highway 48 east for approximately 15 miles to St. Croix State Park. Follow park signs to the Head of the Rapids Group Center.
