About

Saint Croix State Park's Backpack Campsites offer a true backcountry experience within Minnesota's largest state park. These remote sites are positioned at least half a mile from any parking area, accessible only by foot, and provide the solitude that serious backpackers seek. The park encompasses 33,895 acres of rolling hills, forests, and wetlands along 21 miles of the scenic St. Croix River. Each backpack campsite includes a cleared tent pad, fire ring, and access to primitive vault toilet facilities. Some sites also have picnic tables and grills on the fire rings. Potable water is available, though campers should confirm current water system status with the park. No electricity or hookups are provided at these primitive sites. The surrounding trail network connects backpackers to the park's diverse landscapes, from river bluffs to interior forests. Saint Croix State Park serves as a gateway to extended backcountry adventures, with the Kettle River flowing through the southern portion and numerous loops for multi-day trips.
