Backpack Campsites

Closed — Closed for winter season. Backpack campsites typically operate from spring through fall. Reservations available through the Minnesota State Parks system.

About

The backpack campsites at Saint Croix State Park provide a true wilderness camping experience in Minnesota's largest state park. Two designated backpack sites are located along Bear Creek and Crooked Creek, accessible only by hiking through the park's 127 miles of trails. These primitive campsites allow backpackers to experience the remote areas of this 34,000-acre park, which encompasses both the Saint Croix River, a National Scenic Riverway, and the Kettle River, a State Wild and Scenic River. The backpack sites are designed for self-sufficient campers seeking solitude and a backcountry experience. The park's diverse terrain includes aspen, jack pine, and conifer forests, with opportunities to observe wildlife including black bears, wolves, and various other species. Reservations are made through the Minnesota State Parks reservation system at reservemn.usedirect.com.
