About
Horse Springs Group Campground is located in the East Fork Recreation Area along the East Fork of the Black River in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. The campground sits in a forested valley shaded by tall ponderosa pines, where the East Fork meanders through the landscape bordered by grasses, alders, and streamside hardwoods. The facility includes new vault toilet facilities, a group ramada, and picnic area. Most of the campground is relatively accessible, making it a suitable option for group camping. The area experiences light usage and offers a peaceful, forested setting typical of the White Mountains region. Access requires traveling on Forest Roads 249 and 276 from Alpine. The campground sits at approximately 7,700 feet elevation in a remote area of Apache County, providing a true backcountry forest experience along a scenic mountain stream.
Directions
From Alpine, drive two miles north on US Highway 191 to Forest Road 249. Turn west and follow this wide, graveled road 5 miles to Forest Road 276. Turn south and follow Forest Road 276 for six miles to the East Fork Recreation Area.
