About

Deer Creek Campground is the most rustic of the campgrounds along the East Fork Black River in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The East Fork meanders through a forested valley shaded by tall ponderosa pines and bordered by grasses, alders, and streamside hardwoods. At 7,645 feet elevation, it provides a cool mountain retreat during the hot Arizona summers. The six sites are positioned a few steps back from the stream to protect the Black River's unique riparian zone, but access to the river is easy. The undergrowth serves more to enhance the river's picturesque nature than to obstruct passage. Each site has a rock fire ring and picnic table. Vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. This concessionaire-operated campground is first-come-first-served with no advance reservations available. The fee is $14 per night ($7 with a Senior or Interagency pass). The access road (Forest Road 276) is graveled but suitable for most vehicles.
